We are now just 42 days away from an election that can break the Brexit deadlock in Parliament and allow the country to move forward. It is very clear:
A Conservative government with a functional majority can get Brexit done and focus on the issues that make a real difference to people’s lives – the NHS, schools, and policing. We will bring the change people voted for, realise the opportunities of Brexit, and improve people’s quality of life.
Who I am?
I am a nuclear engineer, married with one daughter, son of two hard-working engineers. I have lived and worked locally in the Manchester conurbation for the last 17 years.
I am of Chinese heritage and moved to the UK from China because I came to do my doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Manchester. My family instilled in me the Conservative values of hard work, family values, education and resilience. My commitment to you is that if I am selected, I will be your hands-on, hardworking, committed and energetic candidate who lives locally and is easily accessible to meet and chat to members and constituents and campaign with you.
‘‘Shengke is one of our candidates in Trafford and is putting in huge efforts. It is great to see members of the Chinese community here getting involved in public life and local politics…’’Sir Graham Brady, MP for Altrincham and Sale West.
Experience in Local Issues
I am very award of local issues and challenges and have a proven track record in championing and getting results for my local community. In January 2019, after counting 76 potholes in the Craven Road area of Broadheath, I instantly set up a campaign group with local residents to petition the Trafford Council to resurface and redevelop the road. After two months of hard work, I eventually successfully secured £300k to resurface and redevelop the Craven Road area. The road is now fully resurfaced. Residents are very happy about the outcome.
VOLUNTARY AND COMMUNITY WORK
I am very active in voluntary work including being:
- Vice Chairman of the Centre of Chinese Contemporary Arts (CFCCA);
- School Governor of Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester;
- I enjoy cycling and have completed a number of cycling challenges and raised more than £20,000 for charities including SOS Children Villages and the Chinese Streamside Garden, a unique fusion of Chinese and British horticulture being created by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). This year, I raised £5800 in a cycling challenge from Carcassonne to Barcelona supporting the very first Chinese garden created by RHS.
Apart from cycling, I enjoy spending time with my family and finding creative things to do with my energetic daughter. I am also a football referee registered at Manchester Football Association and I play 40 games per year.
In the end, The alternative is more confusion, more delay, and more indecision – with Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street, no prospect of getting Brexit done and other important issues not getting the attention they need. Remember – a vote for Labour, the Liberal Democrats or the Brexit Party will deliver the same outcome. Just years more arguing about Brexit and no action on issues like the NHS, education and policing.
